Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why does my printer driver not install in Windows Vista?

A: Windows Vista™ does not support kernel-mode (KM) print drivers as primary drivers. Only user-mode printer drivers are supported in Windows Vista. This reduces the possibility of a computer crash and improves stability.

The result of this change is that some legacy print drivers will fail to install in Windows Vista. If you encounter errors installing a print driver, check with the device manufacturer for information on updated drivers.
